Holiday 2

Right alex cant come, toby can. Nothing else has changed and we still have to book it, except alex maybe able to come she just has to check... But it seems everyone is still happy with going to the resort we looked at. However, we need to book it and work out a way to get there, with me not able to travel until the 27th...

So suggestions anyone? I suggested i fly to paris on the 27th and u guys pick me up, k earlier having thought of taking the trip over two days. but toby pointed out ud actually have to go thru paris.... crazy traffic there.

How would we pick you up in Paris?
Isn't the resort in Southern France while Paris is in the north, which must be at least 500 miles away.

You are talking about the place Agerrre del mer? or wahtever it's called aren't you?

Blogger Mr K said...

yeah, flying to paris would be infeaking sane. We will have to drive over two days, although I don't see why we will need to go through Paris at all... I imagine there exist hotels outside the capital city.

Basically, once we've booked we will be given a time for the euro tunnel (I think- it might be more flexible than that), and will have to work around that. I am probably the closest to folkstone, where I believe it said we leave from (although this confuses me- surely we should leave from dover, or am I just being stupid), so maybe everyone should meet at mine the day before- that is Ben Toby and Fred, then we all drive- we might make it across France in a day, but it would be damn tiring, and only two of us would be able to drive. As for you P, I guess a flight makes sense, although I do not know what the closest airport is. Paris is most definitely not it, however.

8:51 pm
Blogger Ben said...

Couldn't we just fly to Marseille?
Surely that's an easier and cheaper option.
Easyjet fly there for about £56 each way apparently.
Or if we want to take the eurostar somewhere in the North would make more sense, like Brittany - there's some really nice beaches there too.

we could book tickets ontop of the holiday price it wouldnt cost much and it would be much much quicker.

5:02 pm
Blogger Mr K said...

Thats true, I suppose if we will be booking a hotel and travelling so far it would come out to the same anyway. Incidentally.... wheres everyone else?

Anyway, yeah, I will look at flights right now and check it out- need to find the nearest airport I suppose. From there we might still want a rental car though- with 5 of us we would all be able to fit into one, so that'd be fine.

4:05 pm
Blogger Imperium child said...

we need a driver too tho, tobs! I hear ur name being suggested

10:06 pm
Blogger Mr K said...

Well, Be could drive as well, although where exactly we would end up in France I dread to think....

3:50 pm
Blogger Fresher said...

You guys sound like you're having fun. I am still pushing for a trip in the homeland somewher :) But I think that if we go to France, somewhere in the north would make travelling easier.

10:26 pm
Blogger Imperium child said...

u find us a cheap place fred and we'll go there!

7:32 pm
Blogger Mr K said...

to be honest, that first place was fine, the one next to a lake, but you had to have a "proper" beach for some reason.....

8:54 pm
Blogger Imperium child said...

... FINE! We wont go to a proper beach, we'll have a shabby horrible one. Now that alex isnt coming theres one less for the proper beaches, so i'll look up the other one tomorrow

ugh, I cant seem to find the holiday that we looked at so I'll put the appropriate website up here

Fred had it bookmarked I think... will look at this properly tomorrow I think.

Here's the dordogne... http://holidays.bargainholidays.com/lmn/holidays/presentationFR/holidays_booking_main.jhtml?step=1&_DARGS=%2Flmn%2Fholidays%2FpresentationFR%2Fholiday_online_form.jhtml

and argeles

http://holidays.bargainholidays.com/lmn/holidays/presentationFR/holidays_booking_main.jhtml?step=1&_DARGS=%2Flmn%2Fholidays%2FpresentationFR%2Fholiday_online_form.jhtml

You may notice the prices have gone up. Frankly, I think we should book and then sort out transportation- it apparently comes with euro tunnel bookings so there is A way to get there if flights fall through, which I don't think they would.

http://ww3.teletextholidays.co.uk/OfferSearches/holiday_offers_search_results.aspx?Date=26/06/2006&DepDateReport=26-06-2006&Duration=7-7&BoardType=0&DateRange=3-3&Price1=0&Price2=0&AirportID=-1&Adult=5&Child=0&SearchType=2&area=overseas&Sort=0&Ratings=-1&DestID=-1&RegionName=Any&DestType=label

some teletext holidays....

If we go for a uk holiday, here are some options

http://www.chooseacottage.co.uk/webparts/part_search_results.asp actually this link almost certainly won't work for you- go to teletext holidays, choose uk breaks, cottages, then enter in our particulars

4:49 pm
Blogger Imperium child said...

i suggest dordogne and lets just get it done.

4:56 pm
Blogger Ben said...

Dordogne is fine, but I really don't wanna have to travel from Calais to there, as it's 487 miles and google says it will almost take 11 hours!

5:50 pm
Blogger Mr K said...

Well then, we will just book a flight and rent a car I suppose. I rather feel we should book and then sort out transport. It was pointed out to me that it might even be cheaper to go by train.

But yeah, transport can come later, we need to book now and sort out it later- it comes with eurotunnel if we can arrange nothing else.

So, Dordogne sounds fine to me.

11:57 am
Blogger Imperium child said...

ok we just need tobs and freds input then we book.

12:17 pm
Blogger Fresher said...

Sounds like you have a plan. Go for it.

5:53 pm
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I don't care. Go for it.

Surely P you could have just said that in your text?!

11:07 pm
Blogger Imperium child said...

its easier for me if we do it that way. Ok, everyone get onto msn messenger if u can at 2 pm tomorrow, sunday, then we can book it. The reason more than one of us has to be there is so we can check what we are doing when we book it.

10:56 pm
Blogger Ben said...

Only just got teh message.
But went on messenger and noones there :(
It's only 2.20pm

1:23 pm
Blogger Imperium child said...

ok its booked. £340 total. Ben is looking at transport as we speak

1:58 pm
Blogger Ben said...

Ok the best and fastest way to get there seems to be fly from stansted to Limoges, hire a car and drive from limoges to wherever the hell this place is.(Approx 80km or 1hr 44mins).
Return flights are available for £133 each. A peugeot 307 would cost £138.80.
A hire car such as a Renault Laguna (big enough to fit all of us in reasonably comfortably I guess) would cost £221 total or £44.50 each
Now I really dunno how Paul would get there, I guess an alternative is:
Get 2 hire cars eg 2 peugeot 307s for £277.60 or £55.52 each and Paul gets one to drive himself.

The alternative is of course to cancel and go to somewhere that's not insane to reach :p

http://www.thomsonbeach.co.uk/th/beach/viewHolidayDetails.do?holidayId=R/28416&brochureId=TH13&date=27/08/06&searchCount=5

this is the link to a holiday in Bodrum, turkey. I've been to it before so its an ok place to go. Hope the link works. If not go to www.thomsonbeach.co.uk put in 27th aug for a week and search it should be up the top

9:28 pm
Blogger Ben said...

Ok it seems my prevous rather long post has been deleted :(
In case it doesn't return here's the gist.
Paul forgot to mention that Last Minute didn't charge for cancellation so no worries there.
I don't fancy Turkey to be honest. (Reasons: fly from Luton, 2 bad reviews from parents/friends).
Benidorm looks pretty good, has a huge theme park, plenty of pubs and should be pretty good. Also flies from Gatwick and is only another 34 quid.
I know Tenerife would be good as I go there every year, but that's also the downside (for me at least).
I also still wouldn't mind a city holiday, but if the consensus is for a beach chillin holiday that's cool.

Finally it really depends on the budget, how much would you be willing to spend Mr K?

I also suggested Jersey and Brighton, but P didn't fancy that.

12:03 am
Blogger Mr K said...

Thats £249.... I really don't want to spend more than £100... I still have no source of income this holiday (although, on an unrelated note, had my very first driving lesson today... all the way to 10mph baby! Could have switched to second gear, but... didnt feel confident enough...), so yeah... I could probably stretch to about 150, but thats about it. I don't know why you're so opposed to a uk holiday Paul, it'd be much cheaper, and after all, isn't the holiday about all of us hanging out? The channel islands would be cool....

To be honest we all have our whole lives to earn a lot of money and go to exotic locations- now is the time to just enjoy each other's company instead. I have no idea how you can afford that computer Paul....

5:55 pm
Blogger Ben said...

I really don't see how we can go abroad for under £100. We could possibly do it if we stay in a youth hostel otherwise I guess the place will be crap or will cost too much to travel.
Staying in the UK will be a stretch at even £150 to be honest (you realise that would buy 5 nights at a reasonably cheap hotel).

10:55 pm
Blogger Imperium child said...

yeah K u cant go away for £100 almost anywhere. And dont patronise me K, I know its about being together more than anything, but it would still be nice to go to a place that isnt likely to rain...

Instead of poking holes in our ideas K find some that are cheap enough for you to go on, wherever in the world. Barring Scotland... dont make us go to scotland.

And how I afforded my computer?? Not that its any of ur business but I have had a job in my life and I have saved money, even if it seems contrary.

11:55 pm
Blogger Ben said...

What's wrong with Scotland, is it the rain or the scots? Hehe
I morally against going to Wales even though I have freinds who are Welsh.

4:23 pm
Blogger Mr K said...

Well I actually found a bunch of cottages in the UK for under £150 each- the link is on my earlier post. And why the hostility P? I was hardly being patronisig, was just saying, and was genuinely curious about the PC. Jesus.

this second one is very cheap

http://www.cottagesdirect.com/cottageDetails.asp?searchId=coa091

Theres more, these are just some examples- the second is very cheap. This is cornwall, I'd find more but I want to wait to see if anyone vetoes cornwall.

It should still be warm in late august.. hopefully.

5:24 pm
Blogger Ben said...

I don't have a problem with them. The first one seems pretty good although I haven't a clue what the hell polperro is like.
The second one is cheap cos it's in the middle of nowhere lol. It's in a field and to be honest K you're generally not the outdoorsey type if you know what I mean.

However I don't mind renting a cottage or something as long as it isn't in the middle of nowhere because then we'd really just be better off coming to Bath for a week cos at least there'd be stuff to do and that would be free!
I've just had a quick look through that cottage site and they all seem to be in rural areas and I think we'll be stuck with nothing to do.

Hehe I found one called Great Tit Cottage, lol.

Could I perchance throw in the idea of renting a caravan or if you really do wanna go rural then we should go the whole way and do the camping thang in my opinion.

I know Paul scoffed at my idea to go to Brighton, but at least it should still be warm, has a beach and guaranteed plenty of stuff to do. Here's a place in the centre that seems reasonable and I'm sure there's many others.
(Take note Kieran - that's called an html hyperlink!)

9:06 pm
Blogger Mr K said...

ooh lar dee dar. To be fair those cottages are actually within range of a beach, although admittedly if it gets too cold by then that will be no fun.

Brighton looks alright, although I have heard tell it's a big place for gay nightlife, and I'm not sure that's my scene.

Believe it or not Ben I can do outdoorsy... I just normally choose not to. We could even go to somewhere like the lake district and just go walking.

On a completely unrelated note, I have made a skibi discovery! On both sides of the base there are little stone diamonds- creep HAVE to touch these, so you can build loops so the creep have to go around, back into the loop, then out again, a strategy meaning they pass the same defences three times. Not useful for single player unfortunately, but true for multiplayer. Incidentally P, check out battlenet custom battles- there are a fantastic amount of fooman frenzy, td... you name it really

9:44 pm
Blogger Imperium child said...

£1500 (High Season), £950 (Medium), £500 (Low), these are the prices for the first cottage and I dont know which we would be under, k, i assume, assumeed it was low season. other than that its fine

I am vetoing that RIGHT now. or should that have been right NOW... anyway, no walking holidays, sorry but i got so sick of them when i wsa younger, we used to do at least one every year... so boring...

Cornwall is fine btw ooh ooh we could rent a place in london and go there for a week. the ooh ooh was cos i thought of an idea, not because of london

10:23 am
Blogger Mr K said...

Well.... we could rent a place in London yes, but A-it'd be expensive and B-I live an hours journey from London. I mean theres holidays and theres holidays......

I clicked on reservations P, that tels you how much it would cost- about 170 each for that first one, so a little over what I'd like, but it's ok. I still think it'd be fine Ben because we'd be within reach of beaches- with a car we can go places, using the magic of driving. I could also drive us, as long as we did't mind going at 20 miles an hour. And not reversing.

11:19 am
Blogger Ben said...

Um I think you have to have passed your test before you can drive, unless you stay away from motorways, but I think someone has to be over 25 to come with you aaand I think you'll have to practise a bit b4 I let you get your hands on my new car!
The issue with the rural places is what to do in the evenings, If someone's driving they can't drink and as fun as poker is I don't really wanna spend a week staying in every night.

To be fair to Brighton any city that's large enough will have plenty of gay nightlife - it's supply and demand. Newcastle does too but it doesn't mean you get guys hitting on you constantly in fact you generally just don't go to the gay area and it's not an issue. Anyway twas just an idea, as I thought it's got a beach, it'll be warm (hopefully) and has places to go.

5:04 pm
Blogger Imperium child said...

u got any hotel ideas for brighton? I dont mind going wherever... just want to get it booked :(

11:52 pm
Blogger Imperium child said...

unless of course we do that holiday to cornwall thing, tho i looked at it and it said we'd be going in high season... and I'll be damned if i'll shell out about £300 for cornwall!

11:55 pm
Blogger Ben said...

There's the Abbey hotel 3* would cost about £170 each for 5 nights and that's easy reach of the beach and West Pier. That'd be for 2 twins and a single. If we looked around a bit more we could probablys get a twin and triple and save some money, but that's just as an example.
Probably could blag a better rate over the phone.

12:30 pm
Blogger Mr K said...

Well I wouldn't mind Brighton at all, you do have a point about going out in cornwall, although theres noting like kicking back with a heavy quantity of beer at home!

But yeah, if you could maybe get some quotes on prices Ben that'd be useful, if you want to, or we could look online.

Incidentally I could push it all the way to fourth gear now, only occasionally.... accidentally putting it into neutral and fifth....

4:41 pm

lol, my driving instructor forced me to drive fast well at least the minimum speed limit.
He shouted at me if I went below 30 mph.

11:55 pm
Blogger Imperium child said...

no toby!!! camping is the devils holiday! But seriously i dont mind, as mentioned before.

I am up for that holiday ben suggested £170 one. not that i want to spend more money than i have to k, just calm down.

And tobs we can play footie at a hotel just as much as at a camping site... just find a field/beach.

10:12 am

I don't understand this hatred of camping. cheap and easy.

Just get it sorted people! Whata palaver!

5:07 pm
Blogger Mr K said...

Abbey hotel sounds cool, it's a nice enough price. Not sure how we'll all get there, but it shouldn't be too hard- I think one of should probably come by car so we can drive places if we want to, and the rest of us probably by train.

And Toby, camping is horrible.

1:07 pm
Blogger Ben said...

I'll probably go by car and can give Fred a lift if he likes.

4:51 pm
Blogger Imperium child said...

ok!! Book it!! Lets go!! fred dont care, toby dont care, i'm in, k's in, and bens in. To me that spells success!!

I'll be on messenger at 12:00 tomorrow to book it. I'll need ben on to show me what I need to look at and anyone else is free to join in.

9:52 pm
Blogger Ben said...

ummm i'll be at work, but here's the link
It seems fine, parking might be slightly tricky, but i'm sure I'll find somewhere and that'll be an issue everywhere in the city centre I guess.
If you find another hotel I don't mind , as long as the location's good and it's not absolutely shite. A car park would be a bonus too!

5:14 pm
Blogger Ben said...

oooh I also don't mind paying more for an en-suite room if someone else wants en-suite too.

5:16 pm
Blogger Mr K said...

I can't get it to give prices on twin rooms, only singles....

12:18 pm
Blogger Mr K said...

OK, I am going on holiday on saturday, and may not be online tomorrow. I really would prefer for the price not to creep beyond £170, especially as I shall have to go by train, will shall boost the total cost by as much as £50. However, 170 is fine, if it goes a bit over, text me and I guess I will call. I have a fair amount of credit left on the phone for this month so can afford fairly rapid international calls.

The venue looks nice, and I am happy to share a twin, although I have been known to snore, so accept this offer at your peril. Incidentally it might be worth just checking if there are any cottages in the brighton area, simply because it might be cheaper, and also it would be a bit more pleasent if we had a whole cottage to ourself. But if we end up sticking with this idea I will not be too sad.
